People often search for the latest and greatest in luxury backyards. Swimming pools are no longer the epitome of paradise: instead swimming pools with tanning shelves and swim-up bars, poolside fire pits, integrated LED lighting, waterfalls and grottos are the homeowner’s way of personalizing their swimming pool in Lafayette, LA to their specifications. With all of these additions to swimming pools, how can homeowners do something different? Beaches are a popular vacation destination, but for most living beach-side is not possible and for some a simple swimming pool doesn’t bring the feel of the beach home. The solution? Sand pool. Most common in luxury resorts and hotels, these types of pools are slowly making their way into the residential realm.
Sand pools are a new type of pool built similarly to a traditional gunite pool. Pools are given a gradual beach entrance and an organic, flowing shape. Gentle slopes can surround the entire pool, or from a single entry point more closely resembling a traditional pool. They are built similarly to gunite pools in Lafayette, LA, with the general shape of the pool being dug out and dirt removed. After this, concrete is sprayed to form the shell of the pool for the lining to adhere to. This is where sand pools differ from the pools we are more familiar with. The lining is made up of resins and compacted sand. Benefits of this type of lining include temperature control (the lining won’t heat up and burn your feet) and it is soft to the touch and nonslip. Gradual slopes into the pool are great for those who need or want a more accessible swimming pool for the disabled or for young children to splash around in. These pools are fully customizable, down to the color of the sand. Want a white sand Floridian beach in your backyard? What about the black volcanic sand Hawaii is known for? Customize your own beach no matter where you are!
